Girls basketball: Black's 30 points lead Chestatee past East Hall; LCA wins in OT; Buford survives; Lumpkin rolls; GHS falls on last second shot

RABBITTOWN — The Chestatee girls won their third consecutive game and moved into third place in Region 8-4A after taking a 53-49 win over East Hall on Tuesday.

Riley Black poured in a career-high 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to pace the Lady War Eagles (15-6, 5-3 Region 8-4A). Bowen Corley added 12 points and Addison Boyd had 11 points for Chestatee.

Chestatee led most of the way leading 13-11 after the first quarter and 28-21 at halftime. The Lady War Eagles took a 42-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Vikings, however, staged a big rally behind Amari Burce, who scored 5 of her 7 points in the final period. But Black scored all 11 of Chestatee’s fourth-quarter points, including going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, to hold off East Hall (10-10, 3-6 Region 8-4A).

Audrey Griffin and Alexis Burce led the Lady Vikings with 13 points apiece. East Hall is off until traveling to Jefferson next Tuesday in Region 8-4A action.

Chestatee will hit the road on Friday against Jefferson in Region 8-4A action.


DENMARK 59,
GAINESVILLE 58

Gainesville (8-12, 1-8 Region 6-7A) frustrated Denmark's Sophie Smith most of the night with a box and 1 defense, but the senior sharpshooter got the last laugh. 

Smith, who only had 7 points at the half but finished with 18, nailed the game-winning 3-point shot from the right-wing with 2.4 seconds left to lift the Lady Danes (11-10, 4-4 Region 6-7A) to the come-from-behind win at home on Tuesday. 

The Lady Red Elephants had a good look at the end, but Keidra Young, who finished with a game-high 31 points and 13 rebounds, couldn't get it to fall. 

The game was a back-and-forth Region 6-7A battle from the opening tip. Denmark was playing for a fourth-place tie in the standings, and Gainesville was trying to get out of the basement in the region. 

The game had 20 ties and 16 lead changes.

Gainesville grabbed its largest lead in the third quarter off a Caloni Young bucket, 37-31. It was the Lady Red Elephants' answer to Emma Hempker's 6-0 run (two 3-pointers) to open the second half. 

Caloni Young's score was part of a 9-0 spurt to push the Lady Red Elephants ahead six points with 4 minutes left. 

Denmark, however, would not go away, charging back to tie the game by the end of the third quarter. 

In the fourth, the Lady Danes outpaced Gainesville 8-0 to take a 51-45 lead, Denmark's largest. 

But Gainesville, on the back of Keidra Young rally back to tie the game with 1 minute left. Young scored 10 points on Gainesville's next five possessions. She also forced the turnover that led to the Zaria Williams lay-up to take the lead with 8.4 seconds to go, 58-56.

KeKe Jones finished with 10 points in the loss. 


BUFORD 60,
DACULA 56

The Lady Wolves (17-3, 8-0 Region 8-6A) survived a hard-charging Dacula team at Buford Arena on Tuesday.

Tatum Ozment led Buford with 17 points. Tomori Plantin had 14, and Jayla Gudz had 13. 


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 62,
KINGS RIDGE 48

The Lady Lions used a huge first-quarter run to grab the lead and hang on for a key Region 6-A Private win on the road.

Lakeview (7-10, 4-3 Region 6-A Private) opened the game with a 21-8 run and led 42-19 at halftime. The Lady Lions eventually took a 57-30 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Joelle Snyder led Lakeview with 23 points. Sara Nivens added 12 points and 6 steals, Dynesty Putman had 11 points, and Ashlyn Henderson contributed with 7 points and 13 rebounds.

Lakeview next will travel to first place St. Francis on Friday.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 36,
FIDELES CHRISTIAN 30 OT

The Lady Lightning took a big region win in overtime on Tuesday.

Senior Ashley Avery paced LCA (9-12, 3-4 in GAPPS) with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Ellie Roberts had 10 points and 6 rebounds, Adelyn Gough added 9 points and 6 rebounds, and Camille Hoffman pulled down 8 rebounds for the Lady Lightning.

LCA next will travel to Trinity Prep on Friday.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 68,
NORTH HALL 42

The top-ranked Lady Indians (20-1, 11-0 Region 7-3A) continued their roll through Region 7-3A with a win over North Hall (15-7, 6-5 Region 7-3A)

Lumpkin County has a three-game lead on White County, while North Hall is tied with Dawson County for the fourth spot. The Lady Trojans will play host to Dawson County on Friday.
