Habitat Hall County re-opens online housing applications

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Habitat for Humanity of Hall County has re-opened their online housing application process.

The non-profit housing ministry helps to offer low-income families mortgages with no interest. Christine Osasu with the organization spoke on WDUN's "Newsroom" last week.

"People will be able to see the online orientation and then download an application and that starts the process," Osasu said. "Our program takes about two years from approval to move-in."

That orientation and online application download can be found on the organization's website. Osasu said Habitat for Humanity looks to provide affordable mortgages.

"The average monthly mortgage payment in our Copper Glenn subdivision is just $668 for a home that they own," Osasu said.

She said those who are approved by the board of directors for a home will need to begin payment on a $1,500 closing cost contribution and have to put in 260 hours of volunteer labor, building on their homes and others as well as working in the restore. They will also need to take financial education classes and home owner maintenance classes.

"We want to kind of have all the wrap-around education that's needed for them to be successful home owners," Osasu said.

She said Habitat for Humanity of Hall County is currently building its 67th home.
