A Commerce man was killed Thursday afternoon in Athens when his vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree.
According to a social media post from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the unidentified 20-year-old man was driving northbound on Lumpkin Street just after 12 p.m. His 2002 Ford Escape left the roadway, slid down an embankment and hit a tree.
Police responded to the area between Gran Ellen Drive and Old Princeton Road, where they found the driver dead at the scene.
