Norcross police officer charged with "immoral and illegal conduct" while on duty

A Suwanee man was arrested Tuesday for immoral and illegal conduct while on duty as a police officer.  Kevin Shawn Day, 36, is a police officer for the city of Norcross. He is accused of seeking out prostitutes for sex and for misusing law enforcement databases.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the police officer, who has been with the Norcross department since late 2018, has been fired. Day has been charged with pandering, violation of oath by a police officer, and unauthorized request or disclosures of criminal history record information. He was fired January 7 after evidence was received that Day was seeking out prostitutes.

Day is also accused of using the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services, as well as the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) database, to look up people who were not part of his work cases.

Gwinnett County deputies had been working alongside Norcross officers to investigate Day since mid-November, when the sheriff’s office notified Norcross police officials of allegations an officer may be pandering for sex with a prostitute in the city.

The Norcross Police Chief, Bill Grogan, said his department is one of only 26 state-certified, accredited city police departments in the state and officers receive ethics, morality, and integrity training multiple times a year, including sessions on GCIC use.

Booking records show that Day posted a $4,600 bond and was released from jail Tuesday night.
