UNG men knock off No. 24 Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE — Hitting 11-of-18 three pointers on the night, the University of North Georgia men's basketball team knocked off No. 24 Georgia College Saturday evening, 88-73.

North Georgia led from the jump, using a four-point play right off the tip from Kody Shubert to jump start an 11-3 run. Georgia College would tie the game on two occasions at 23-23 and 25-25 and took the lead at 31-30, but the Nighthawks finished the first half on a 20-9 run to hold a 10 point advantage, 50-40.

The Nighthawks pulled away in the second half with the lead going no lower than eight points and stretching to as many as 16 on the way to the win.

NOTES
- Shubert led all scorers with 23 points to go with five boards and six assists. Malik Hardy added 15, while Eric Jones put up 14. Frank Champion recorded a fifth double-double this season with 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Greg Billups, Jr. contributed 11.

- The Nighthawk defense held the Bobcats to just 8-of-34 from three point range. GC came into the contest shooting over 34 percent from distance on the season.

- The win marks the second win over a ranked team this season as UNG took down then-No. 24 Lee back in November.

The Nighthawks will entertain Flagler Monday night inside the Convocation Center at 7:30 p.m.
