Brenau classes shift online for start of spring semester

By AccessWDUN staff

Brenau University announced Thursday plans to delay the start of in-person classes until Jan. 12, as well as the temporary shift of those classes to an online format. Classes already scheduled to be online will start on Jan. 10.

According to a press release from the university, all in-person classes will be held virtually from Jan. 12 through Jan. 30. Brenau's campus, however, will remain open.

The press releases states the university expects to resume in-person classes on Jan. 31.

Classes that require hands-on activities such as labs, clinical experiences, rehearsals, and auditions will continue to be held in-person with COVID protocols in place. Activities in healthcare settings may require additional protocols like wearing N95 face masks, face shields and gloves, which will be provided by the university. Student teaching, field placement and teacher internships will continue in-person for schools that choose to continue class in-person.

Residential halls will be open this weekend for students who still wish to move in. A second move-in period will be announced at a later date for students who wish to delay their return.

Details regarding in-person educational experiences and the number of faculty and staff required to be on campus are also still being determined. All faculty and staff should talk with their supervisor about the need to be at a work location through Jan. 28.

All students, faculty and staff are asked to continue following Brenau's COVID-19 protocols, which are:

  • Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been exposed to the virus should complete Brenau’s COVID Reporting Form
  • Masks must be worn indoors on all campuses, and everyone should complete the COVID-19 Screening Checklist before entering a building
  • For more information about COVID-19 protocols and campus operations, check their Brenau email for information and visit the FAQs

During this period, campus visitors are discouraged and public events are cancelled.

The release state the changes are being made based on trends in the community and the state surrounding a new wave of COVID-19 cases.

"According to health care experts, the nationwide increase in cases is expected to be short-lived, and the university appreciates the cooperation and adaptability of faculty, staff and students during this fluid situation," Brenau said in the press release.
