Softball: North Hall, East Hall, Buford get region wins

DAWSONVILLE — Olvia  Mullins threw a six-hit shutout to lead North Hall past Dawson County 8-0 in Region 7-3A action on Thursday.

Mullins went the distance, fanning 12 and walking just one outlasting Dawson County’s Layne Bailey as the two were locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel through the first three innings.

But the Lady Trojans eventually got to Bailey with two runs each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Bailey lasted 5 1/3 innings allowing 10 hits and six runs while walking zero. Reese Moore threw 1 2/3 innings in relief out of the bullpen for the Lady Tigers.

North Hall racked up 13 hits on the day. Mullins and Kb  Seabolt each had three hits. Jacey  Smith and Kinsley Kirby had two hits apiece and Kirby had a pair of RBI as well. Bre Stowers had a hit and three RBI for the Lady Trojans.

Ainsley Allen went 3-for-3 for Dawson County.


EAST HALL 4
FLOWERY BRANCH 1

East Hall dealt Flowery Branch a big Region 8-4A loss on Thursday at East Hall Park.

Calli Hardison went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out five.

Nikki Harris took the loss for Flowery Branch going six innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits and striking out five.

The Lady Falcons struck first with a run in the top of the third. The Lady Vikings answered with two runs in the bottom of the innings and two more in the fifth.

Gracie Ausborn, Elvie Armour, and Brooke Hewell all had two hits to lead East Hall. Armour had two RBI as well.

Casey Beaver had two hits to lead the Flowery Branch offense.


BUFORD 7,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 2

The Class 6A No. 1-ranked Lady Wolves closed out a busy week in Region 8-6A with their fourth win on the road.

Sophomore Adriana Martinez got Buford (19-2-1, 10-2 Region 8-6A) off to an early lead with a two-run home run in the 1st inning. Martinez would also drive in another run during the Lady Wolves' four-run outburst in the fourth for a 6-0. 

Junior Olivia Duncan had another quality start scattering two hits and striking out six in four innings. Senior Olivia Haag pitched the final three innings allowing two runs but retired the last six batters of the game in order.

Sophomore Mackenzie Pickens had a hit and two RBI and Duncan had two hits and one RBI for Buford. Sophomore Madison Pickens had a double and scored two runs for the Lady Wolves.

Buford will resume region play on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Shiloh.
