Pickens County man arrested on charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation

A Pickens County man was arrested earlier this week for attempting to have sexual contact with a child.

According to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Roland Buchanan, age 67, was arrested Monday after authorities received information that he was involved in the exchange of money to gain access to the underage child.

The GBI, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, and the Homeland Security Investigations Office all became involved in the investigation. A search warrant of Buchanan’s Jasper home found evidence that, on multiple occasions, Buchanan was offering money to an adult in exchange for sexual contact with a child who lives outside of the United States.

Buchanan’s charges include one count of Criminal Attempt to Commit the Offense of Human Trafficking, one count of Criminal Attempt to Commit Aggravated Child Molestation, one count of Pandering, and one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children by the GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit.

Buchanan was taken to the Pickens County Jail.
