DNR: 5 BUI arrests on Lake Lanier so far over the holiday weekend

Labor Day weekend is a chance to not only enjoy a three-day weekend but also to soak up some of the last of summer fun. Many flock to the Georgia lakes to enjoy the last summer holiday.

So far, the largest lake in the state - North Georgia's Lake Lanier - has been mostly safe for the holiday.

The official report from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showed that since the onset of the holiday weekend, there have been five arrests on Lake Lanier for boating under the influence. The report was current as of 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5.

According to the report, while there were no major accidents in our area as of Sunday evening, there were two drownings just southeast of Atlanta. A drowning occurred on the Oconee River on Saturday and another on Lake Oconee on Sunday.
