Serious injuries reported after Athens Hwy wreck Wednesday

A child was taken by air ambulance to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Wednesday morning after a two vehicle crash on Athens Highway south of Priest Circle.

The child, 4, has a suspected serious injury, according to information released Wednesday afternoon from the Georgia State Patrol. The driver of that vehicle, Jessica Posten, 29, of Gainesville, suffered a suspected serious injury, and another juvenile, 12, had a suspected minor injury, with both taken by Hall County EMS to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, said the state patrol.

According to state troopers, a tow truck was negotiating a curve on Athens Highway, traveling north, around 7:17 a.m. The driver, Michael Morgan, 46, of Buckhead, told troopers he looked at his GPS and when he looked back at the road, he was already in the oncoming lane. GSP confirmed he failed to maintain his lane and that the tow truck struck the passenger car driven by Posten with its front.

The car rotated clockwise and came to a final rest facing north in the southbound lane, against the guardrail. The tow truck came to a final rest facing north in the southbound lane of Athens Highway.

After impact, troopers said a piece of debris struck a third vehicle, which was traveling southbound. No one in that vehicle was injured. Morgan suffered a minor injury and was treated on scene.

Morgan was charged with failure to maintain lane, distracted driving, and no seatbelt.
