White County appoints new county manager

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

The White County Board of Commissioners appointed a new county manager Tuesday following the June resignation of former County Manager Jason Cobb.

The board of commissioners approved an employment contract with Joseph  “Joey” Cason, who currently serves as executive director of the Camden County Public Service Authority. Cason will officially step into the county manager role on Sept. 20.

The employment contract calls for an annual salary of $112,000.

Cason said he has been preparing for his new role.

“I have read the comprehensive plan, very up to speed on their SPLOST projects, very up to speed on the budget there, made sure I understood the use of fund balance to basically go ahead and get the budget done," Cason said. "I feel pretty comfortable that I’ve got a general grasp."

Cason is also asking all department heads to read the leadership book “Radical Leap," ahead of his first day on the job.

Human Resources Director Shanda Murphy has filled the job on an interim basis since Cobb's departure on June 26.
