Air It Out: Bears-War Eagles talk early-season matchup

The Air It Out series returns in 2021 and in this episode we look at the Chestatee-Cherokee Bluff showdown scheduled for Friday.

The game will kick off Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Bears Stadium in Flowery Branch and can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN.

We talked to Chestatee coach Shaun Conley and senior quarterback Luke Bornhorst. We also talked to Cherokee Bluff coach Tommy Jones and senior linebacker Brayden Nance as they all discussed the upcoming battle.

CHESTATEE at CHEROKEE BLUFF

-- CHESTATEE (0-0, 0-0 Region 8-4A): Season-opener; finished 0-10 in 2020
-- CHEROKEE BLUFF (1-0, 0-0 Region 7-3A): Defeated Johnson 57-7 last week
-- NOTABLE: Cherokee Bluff leads series 1-0. The Bears won 49-14 in 2020. ... Despite having to fill several holes on both sides of the ball, the Bears picked up right where they left off last season. They pounded out over 200 yards on the ground with Jayquan Smith scoring 3 TDs, Marlion Jackson 2 TDs, and Max Eubanks had 2 TDs, one rushing and one off a punt return. ... Bluff also held Johnson to less than 50 yards of offense. ... The War Eagles should offer a different style with their spread attack behind QB Luke Bornhorst, who is looking to improve off his breakout season in 2020 (1,116 passing yards, 11 TD). ... Chestatee also is reworking its defense that allowed 46.9 ppg last season. ... The War Eagles have dropped three straight and 8 of their last 9  season-openers.
