UGA staff and students could win $1,000 for getting vaccinated

The University of Georgia is offering incentives as encouragement for those on campus to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the offer is for any student, faculty member of employee, one campus or off. Anyone who is fully vaccinated can submit their names into a drawing to a win cash prize of $1,000. A total of 100 prizes will be awarded.

The drawings will be held on Sept. 15, Sept. 30 and Oct 15.

The only ones exempt from winning are senior administrators. Also, employee awards must be taxed through payroll.

UGA does not require students, faculty and employees to get vaccinated to be on campus, following University System of Georgia guidelines, though many are urging the university to mandate vaccinations and masks.

UGA has already tried offering $20 gift cards, $100 gift cards and even t-shirts as prizes. Administrators were pushing for students to get vaccinated before classes began.
