CARNESVILLE — Lumpkin County's defense kept the Indians in the game, but the offense failed to produce enough in the 20-6 loss to Franklin County at Ed Bryant Stadium.
The Indians (0-1) held on fourth down three times in the first half and forced a turnover while holding the Lions (1-0) to just 62 passing yards and 219 rushing.
But it was the offense that struggled, going scoreless three quarters and only rolling up 130 total yards of offense. There was a bright spot for the Indians on offense late in the fourth quarter when Cooper Scott hit Dakota Bennett on a 27-yard pass with 4:21 to go. The missed extra point left the Lions ahead, 20-6.
Franklin County's offense was only marginally better, scoring two offense touchdowns -- Keylan Rutledge on a five-yard coach in the third quarter and a Micah Blackwell five-yard run in the fourth. The other touchdown came on an interception for a score in the first quarter.
Scott 3-of-8 for 75 yards passing and a touchdown. Cal Faulkner hauled in three catches for 31 yards.
