An arrest has been made in a shooting incident that happened earlier this month in Hall County.
On August 9, a woman was driven to Hall County Fire Station 3 on Ledan Extension Rd with a gunshot wound to her chest. Emergency crews drove the woman to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The man with her, Clinton Andrew Smith, indicated the shooting had been an accident.
Deputies spoke with Smith who said the shooting had occurred inside his home in the northwestern part of Hall County. Preliminary evidence indicated that Smith’s handgun accidentally discharged, hitting the woman.
According to a release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, investigators immediately began working on the case. Further investigation revealed that the shooting did not appear to be accidental. Detectives determined that Smith intentionally assaulted the victim during an argument. He pointed the gun at her head and then shot her in the chest.
The 30-year-old victim survived with non-life-threatening injuries
A warrant was issued on Monday for his arrest. On Wednesday, Hall County Sheriff’s Deputies detained Smith, age 29, at his home off Cool Springs Road.
Smith faces charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault, both under the Family Violence Act.
At last report, Smith remains in the Hall County Jail.
