GDOT, Gwinnett seeking input on I-85 traffic projects

The Georgia Department of Transportation and Gwinnett County will hold a live virtual public meeting later this month to take input on potential traffic improvements for the Interstate 85 corridor that connects I-285 to I-985.

The meeting will be held August 26 at 11:30 a.m. and will include a presentation from the 85 study team, a group that has been looking at possible projects to improve congestion on the busy 18-mile corridor. The meeting will also offer attendees a chance to ask questions.

The 85 study group has identified six potential improvement projects that are listed below:

  • Managed Lane System Improvements
  • Freeway and Interchange Improvements
  • Arterial Improvements
  • Multimodal Options
  • Policy Changes and Smart Infrastructure
  • Add-on Improvements

The group will also listen to other alternative ideas from attendees. In a release, officials said the alternatives should roadway-specific improvements that transit, bicycle, pedestrian, or freight considerations.

 

GDOT and the county are also in the middle of a month-long public information open house that ends September 3. You can find that open house and more information on the proposed projects and public meeting on the group's website.

 

The 85 study group is a partnership between the Georgia DOT and Gwinnett County.
