DULUTH — The Trent Adams era for the Buford softball program got off to a solid start on Friday.
The Lady Wolves rallied from an early deficit to knock off Peachtree Ridge 7-1 in the Rumble At The Ridge tournament.
Buford (1-0) trailed 1-0 after the first inning but played longball over the final four innings to secure Adams’ first win as head coach. The game was called in the fifth inning due to lightning delays running into tournament time limits.
Sophomore Adriana Martinez smashed a towering two-run home run to centerfield to highlight a three-run third inning to take the lead. Junior Olivia Duncan padded the Wolves' lead in the fourth with a solo homer to right-center. Junior Emma Castorri put the game out of reach with a three-run blast in the fifth.
That was more than enough for Duncan (1-0) who went four innings allowing just the one run on three hits while fanning two and walking none.
Buford will continue play in the Rumble At The Ridge tournament on Saturday playing host to several games at the Buford Softball Complex. The Lady Wolves will take on Grayson at 9 a.m. and Alexander at 2:15 p.m.
