South Carolina man identified as Toccoa bank robbery suspect

Investigators have now identified a suspect in a Wednesday morning bank robbery in Toccoa.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize said in a statement released this morning that officers are searching for Sidney Allan McCollum, 42, of Pickens County, South Carolina. Toccoa police have issued a felony warrant for robbery, but McCollum is also facing charges in Pickens County, South Carolina for larceny and domestic violence.

Mize said anyone who sees McCollum should not approach him but call 911 or any of the following investigators:

Mize also issued a new description for a vehicle that McCollum might be driving. He said McCollum stole a 1997 white 350 four-door dually pick-up truck with no tag. He said the truck has an aluminum toolbox on the back and damage to the rear passenger side quarter panel.

Authorities are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a bank in Toccoa Wednesday morning.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize said the robbery happened at Northeast Georgia Bank on Big A Road just before noon. 

Mize said the suspect, who was described as a white male, entered the bank and gave a note to the teller.

The suspect stole an unknown amount of money, and then left the bank. No one was injured at the bank.

The man is described as being of medium to stocky build, with brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a gray t-shirt, jeans, a ball cap and sunglasses. 

Mize said the area surrounding the bank was immediately "flooded with local officers," as they searched for the suspect. A perimeter was immediately set up around the bank and surrounding area. The Stephens County Sheriff's Office also brought in K-9 units to assist in the search. The department spent much of the day interviewing witnesses and pulling surveillance footage from nearby businesses. A photo of the suspect was released from surveillance footage.
