Softball wrap: Branch opens with win; Commerce falls in opener

LAWRENCEVILLE — Flowery Branch opened its 2021 campaign with a solid 4-0 shutout of Class 7A Mountain View on the road on Monday.

A duo of pitchers --  Nikki Harris earned the win allowing just three hits while striking out nine in six innings of work. Aly Wagner closed out the win with no hits, runs or walks in one inning.

Alyssa Wagner -- scattered five hits and fanned eight with Harris getting the victory going three innings. Clack went 3 1/13 innings with Wagner getting the final two outs.

Wagner paced the offense with two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Mak Davis had a hit and one RBI for the Lady Falcons (1-0).

Branch opened with a two-run first inning on an RBI groundout from Davis and an RBI single from Wagner. It stayed that way until Wagner drilled a two-run home run in the sixth.

Commerce opened its 2021 on Monday with a tough loss on the road.

The Lady Tigers (0-1) managed just one fourth-inning single by Paige Vickery

Alexis Darnell took the loss for Commerce yielding four runs on three hits in 1 1/3-innings. Darnell struck out two.
