Clemson, FSU deny reports about reaching out to the SEC

Clemson and Florida State are staying in the Atlantic Coast Conference, at least for now.

After multiple reports surfaced on Monday that the two ACC schools wanted out and into the Southeastern Conference, both are denying the claims.

FSU president John Thrasher, in a statement, said those reports are "untrue."

“I want to be clear that persistent reports that Florida State has been in contact with the Southeastern Conference are untrue,” Thrasher said in the statement. “We have had no communication with the SEC or any representatives of the SEC.”

Grace Raynor, who covers Clemson football for The Athletic, tweeted a Clemson spokesperson confirmed there was "no truth" to the report.

The Athletic reached out to Clemson about the Clemson/SEC rumor-making rounds today. An athletics spokesperson just now: "There is no truth to the report that Clemson University has been in contact with the Southeastern Conference regarding membership."

The report comes days after the University of Texas and Oklahoma were officially invited to join the SEC, leaving the Big 12 in 2025.

Earlier today, CBS Sports reported the Big 12 and Pac 12 are in talks about a possible merger or a scheduling deal to salvage the Big 12's television deal.
