A Conyers man remains in the Hall County Jail after he allegedly assaulted a Gainesville woman he met through social media.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said the the suspect, Derious Jamarus Reid, 27, of Conyers had been at the victim's home on Atlanta Highway since Friday, July 16. The assault reportedly happened on Sunday, July 18, but authorities didn't find out about it right away.

"On Tuesday, July 20, Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Northeast Georgia Medical Gainesville where a woman was being treated in the emergency room for injuries she suffered at the hands of a Conyers man," Booth said in an email statement. "According to the initial investigation, [Reid] hit the victim in her face with his fist, causing an orbital fracture."

When deputies left the hospital, they went to the victim's home and they found Reid there. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.

At last check on Thursday morning, Reid remained in the Hall County Jail.

Booth said the case remains under investigation.
