Man shot during drug deal in South Forsyth County

By AccessWDUN staff

A 19-year-old man from Cumming was shot and wounded during a marijuana sale, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they were flagged down by the victim around 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 9 and McFarland Parkway on the south end of the county.

Investigators said the suspect told them he had gone to Wendy's at 4860 Atlanta Highway to purchase marijuana from Hunter Perry, 19, of Cumming. Perry produced a firearm during the transaction, shot the victim and then fled the scene in his vehicle. They did not say what prompted Perry to shoot the other man.

Deputies were able to find Perry quickly, according to the statement from the sheriff's office.

"It is sad to see such a blatant disregard for human life," Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a media statement. "Forsyth County is no place for this and if you act so stupidly here, the Forsyth County Jail will be your next stop. I’m proud of the rapid and professional response of our deputies who took the shooter into custody within an hour of the shooting.”

Perry has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond at the Forsyth County Jail.

The name of the victim was not released.
