Brown, Jr. sweeps Super Pro races at Atlanta Dragway

By Jerry Towns

Don Brown, Jr. doubled up in Summit ET Series drag racing action at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia on Saturday.

With the track running double features in several divisions due to rain outs the previous week, Brown scored victories in both Super Pro finals held on the day.

In the first final, the Buford, Georgia racer beat out hometown hero Mark Hancock. Brown dialed in his 2003 Spitzer Dragster on a 4.38 and ran a 4.423 ET at 147.96 MPH and a -0.008 reaction time. That would have been a foul, but Hancock had already fouled, handing the win to Brown. Hancock dialed in on a 4.78 and ran a 9.308 ET, but coasted after the foul, running only 56.93 MPH and a -0.006 reaction.

In the second Super Pro final, Brown, Jr. beat out Henry Snelgrove, Sr. for the win. Brown dialed in on a 4.41 and ran a 4.443 ET at 145.41 MPH and a 0.005 reaction time. Snelgrove dialed in on a 5.39 but his car broke rolling through the lights, fouling out.

Other winners on the day included, in race one, Pete Wagner in Pro and Mel Abney in Sportsman. In race two, winners included Matt Ward in Pro, Dickey Forrester in Sportsman, Tim Sutton in Box Bike, Eric Browning in No Box Bike, and Zakary Case in Jr. Dragster.
