Four adults and three children were forced from their homes early Friday morning when fire broke out at a quadruplex on Britain Drive in Lawrenceville.
"Firefighters responded at 12:44 a.m. to a resident report of an apartment on fire in building 13. The caller to 911 stated that it was unknown where the fire was coming from," said Gwinnett County Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge in an email statement. "All occupants were alerted by the smoke alarm and escaped unharmed. There were no injuries reported. The scene was declared under control at 1:21 a.m."
Rutledge said when fire crews arrived at the burning building, they found heavy fire showing from the two end units of the single-story quadruplex.
"The blaze caused heavy fire damage to two units and burned off the roof over part of the building. There was residual damage to the adjoining units due to firefighting efforts. Firefighters did a good job of stopping the spread of the fire and contained the bulk of the damage to the corner units of the building," Rutledge said.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents who were displaced by the fire. No one was injured.
Rutledge said fire investigators are working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
