2021 Georgia Police and Fire Games begin Sunday in Gainesville

By Austin Eller News Director

Those in law enforcement, as well as firefighters from across the state, are gearing up for the 2021 Georgia Police and Fire Games, which begin Sunday in Gainesville.

Throughout the week, first responders will compete against each other in various events, including a motorcycle rodeo, toughest cop, toughest firefighter, sniper competition and much more.

Robyn Lynch, director of tourism with the City of Gainesville, said they are expecting a high turnout.

"We are expecting over 800 participants plus their families to come," Lynch said. "There are 30 events over seven days, and then we have a little fun couple of evenings planned for them as well."

While only first responders are allowed to compete in the majority of the events, Lynch said spectators are welcome and encouraged.

"All events you're welcome to come out, bring your chairs, bring a snack, and something cool to drink and come and enjoy the games," Lynch said.

There is one exception, however. A Red and Blue 5K is set for Sunday morning, and the public is encouraged to participate. You can sign up for the 5K here and read more information about it here. Lynch said there is a chance that the 5K will be delayed due to weather, you can follow the Georgia Police and Fire Games Facebook page for updates.

In order to welcome first responders into the city and community, Lynch said police and fire games yard signs are now available at the Gainesville Visitors Center for people to place in their yard.
