SAN DIEGO — Gainesville's Spencer Ralston closed out his first round of the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines shooting a 4-over par 75.

The former Gainesville High and Georgia standout, playing in his first-ever U.S. Open, started on No. 10 and bogeyed three of his first four holes. But he regrouped for five consecutive pars before bogeying No. 1 (his 10th hole) to drop to 4-over.

He answered that with a birdie on the Par 4 No. 2 and after a bogeys on Nos. 5 and 7, he closed out the round with a birdie on the Par 5 ninth, his final hole of the day.

Ralston is set to tee off for his second at 11:46 AM ET on Friday. The projected cut as the second round gets under way is 2-over par. He is tied for 89th as he tries to qualify for the weekend.

Louis Oosthuizen finished with two good par putts and joined Russell Henley atop the leaderboard at 4-under 67 after the opening round. Ralston and Oosthuizen were among 36 players who didn't finish the round Thursday because of a 90-minute fog delay at the start of the championship.
