A Lula man was killed when he was struck by a train Wednesday evening just off Atlanta Highway near Ray Street.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office, Hall County Fire Services and the Gainesville Fire Department sent personnel to the scene when 911 received a call about a train hitting a pedestrian on the tracks.
Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said the body of Justin Michael McGuire, 33, was found behind a business in the area where he was struck.
"According to the initial investigation, McGuire was walking north on the train tracks in the area," Booth said in an email statement. "The conductor of the northbound train spotted McGuire on the tracks and sounded the train’s horn several times before it struck McGuire."
Booth said charges are not expected, but the investigation into the death continues.
