Holly Springs police officer, suspect killed during traffic stop

By AccessWDUN Staff

A 25-year-old officer with the Holly Springs Police Department and a suspect both were killed during a traffic stop late Wednesday night.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a statement on Twitter, saying the officer had not been shot as first reported, but had been dragged by the suspect's vehicle in the area of Hickory Road and New Light Road.

At a press conference Thursday afternoon, Holly Springs Police Chief Tom Keheley identified the officer as Joe Burson. Officer Burson had worked with the department for just over a year; it was his first job in law enforcement.

The suspect, who was shot and killed by police, was identified as Ansy Dolce, 29, of Cherokee County.

The investigation into the incident continues.

This is the 42nd officer-involved shooting the GBI has investigated so far this year.

Holly Springs is located in Cherokee County.
