DENVER — The University of North Georgia softball team fell in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball Championships to No. 24 Biola Thursday afternoon, 4-0.
All four of Biola's runs came in the fifth, plating the runs on a pair of RBI singles. North Georgia got runners on in the fourth and the fifth, but couldn't get past second base.
Kylee Smith (17-5) was credited with the loss, going the full seven innings and striking out five.
NOTES
- North Georgia is now 3-3 in opening round games at the final site, having lost each of the last three.
- Shelby Hammontree got the lone Nighthawk hit with a single in the fourth inning.
- In the other matchup on UNG's side of the bracket, top-seeded Augustana run-ruled Valdosta State, 10-1.
