Despite pandemic, Gainesville-Hall County sees positive growth

While many communities have suffered economically during the COVID pandemic, Hall County has managed to do quite well, according to the latest economic report from the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce.

The 2021 report was issued this week, and the 12 pages of content include a recap of progress in industrial growth, workforce development, tourism, healthcare and other sectors.

Tim Evans, Vice President of Economic Development for the Chamber, said the area is growing in a number of different directions.

"You really don't have to study a report," Evans said. "Just walk into downtown Gainesville and you can see there's about $130 million in private capital investment underway...you can hear it on every corner."

Evans said analysis of industrial development in Gainesville-Hall County shows a dozen industries either relocated or expanded in the last year. He said the quality of life in the region is attractive to industries and their top executives.

"Oftentimes they look at us as a real sweet spot for finding a place where they can get a highly-skilled workforce for their business processes - whether that's an office operation or highly-technical advanced manufacturing - but they can also attract their top talent to live here," Evans said. "We've got the quality of life that will support the executives that want to relocate."

Plus, Evans said the diversity in economic offerings has helped the area to not just survive, but thrive, during the health crisis. He said Gainesville-Hall County leaders have been smart enough "not to put all of their eggs in one basket."

Evans acknowledged that jobs are plentiful, but there's a big need for talented and skilled workers.

Evans made his comments Monday during an interview on WDUN's Newsroom
