Andretti Indoor Karting and Games has opened a new location in Buford just south of the Mall of Georgia.
The 30-million dollar facility opened to the public last Friday and offers a variety of activities and food options. The highlight, however, is the go-karting.
"These are really high-powered electric karts with four stages of power," professional race driver Adam Andretti said. "They even have a push-to-pass which is pretty unique, so you get like three seconds of extra boost if you push the button at the right time. You can make it a little bit of a strategy when you're out there competing with your friends and your family."
The new facility is the seventh location for Andretti, which started in Roswell. There is currently a Marietta location, one in Orlando, Florida and four in Texas.
There are two multi-level tracks to race on with a number of safety features in place, including one that is new to the Buford location. Lighting along the walls of the tracks will change color to indicate if there are hazards on the tracks or if the racing is over. The karts can also be slowed or even stopped remotely. In addition, a miniature one-level track is available for children to drive on.
Right outside the tracks is a large arcade, multiple restaurants, a duckpin bowling alley and private party suites. Jarrett Andretti said they wanted to expand to the Buford area because of the continuing residential and commercial growth in the area.
"It really started in Roswell in 2001, so Atlanta's been near and dear to our hearts," Andretti said. "Here in Buford, it just seemed like a fantastic area, a piece of real estate that looked really nice and it looks like the traffic through here is going to be amazing. It's going to be great to be a part of this community."
Andretti's is open from 10:00 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and open until 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
