By University of North Georgia Sports Information

INDIANAPOLIS — The No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team was named the top seed in this week's NCAA Division II Softball Southeast Regional, hosted in Dahlonega at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

The Nighthawks claim the top seed in the region for the seventh time in a row and the 11th time overall. Lincoln Memorial will be the No. 2 seed and Young Harris is the third seed. Anderson, Tusculum and Emmanuel round out the six teams coming to the Gold City starting Tuesday. The Pioneers and the Lions claimed the automatic qualifying spot out of the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas, respectively.

Games begin Wednesday afternoon with UNG not playing until Thursday afternoon when they will take on the winner of Anderson and Tusculum.

North Georgia was selected to host the Southeast Regional back in April as a predetermined site due to the protocols put in place by the NCAA to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Every pitch of the Southeast Regional will be carried on the Nighthawk Sports Network.

The winner of the Southeast Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championship May 27-31 at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver in Colorado.

Ticket information to include spectator policies, as well as game times and other information surrounding the regional, will be released Monday afternoon.
