Friends raise money for family impacted in Lake Lanier boat explosion

By AccessWDUN staff

As the investigation continues into Sunday's boat explosion on Lake Lanier, friends are working to raise money for the family who suffered injuries in the incident.

A GoFundMe account set up by friends and family for The Coleman Family had raised more than $16,500 by 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. The fundraising page did not list the first names of the family members. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported the Colemans are from Gwinnett County.

"Just after fueling up the boat for a family day on the lake, their boat exploded injuring the entire family and resulting in Life Flighting the two oldest children to Grady’s Trauma Center," the narrative on the page reads. "The youngest son, mother and father sustained minor burns but their oldest daughter and middle son are currently in ICU."

The children who were most critically hurt are teenagers, according to information released Sunday by Hall County Fire Services.

The 16-year-old daughter suffered the most critical injuries, according to information posted on the GoFundMe page.

"[She] will remain sedated a minimum of a week to get her through the worst of the pain," the information said.

The other son, who is 13, also remained hospitalized.

The money being raised will go to help the family with medical bills.

"Keep them in your prayers and send positive healing vibes," the post said. "They are a family of love and they appreciate the unbelievable outpouring of heartfelt support they have received from all over the country."

The Hall County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion, which occurred Sunday afternoon at the Port of Indecision at Margaritaville at Lake Lanier Islands.
