Cobb told commissioners he will be leaving the government field to pursue a private business opportunity.
The word about Cobb’s resignation was made public Tuesday morning in an email from Chairman Travis Turner on behalf of the Board of Commissioners.
Turner said the entire board was stunned by Cobb’s announcement.
"To say that we were surprised is an understatement," Turner said. "Jason has been with us a year and we were pleased with his work, his work ethic, and [he] was really starting to become a part of our White County community."
Cobb had just completed a year as county manager. His first day on the job was April 27, 2020. He came to White County from Eastman.
The Board agreed with Cobb that he will remain with the county until June 25, 2021. Turner said the timeline will give county officials time to finish next year’s budget and prepare for a transition heading into the new fiscal year. Even so, Turner admitted they have quite a task ahead of them working on a game plan for a replacement.
