The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has so far been unable to locate the body of a missing swimmer in Lake Lanier, but officials said the search will continue.
The department is switching to surface searches and shore sweeps beginning Saturday in an effort to find Dorian Adonis Pinson, 20, of Greenville, South Carolina, said spokesman Mark McKinnon.
McKinnon said rangers using sonar covered more than 300 acres of the lake last week. Surface searches will also conducted and NDR aviation flew over the area on Wednesday. He said the lake in the primary search area is approximately 130 feet deep with 80-foot standing timber on the bottom.
Pinson has been missing for almost a week. Officials were called to an area near Sunrise Cove Marina in Gainesville at about 6 p.m. Sunday, the DNR said. Pinson and two others were on a boat and attempted to go swimming. The two people with Pinson were rescued. Their names have not been made public.
