Report: Valdosta sanctioned by GHSA, including postseason ban

By AccessWDUN Staff

THOMSON — Reports out of the Georgia High School Association say the organization has slapped one of its biggest sanctions ever on a member school in its history.

Valdosta, the state's all-time leader in state titles (24) and the owner of the most wins in high school football in the country (939) has been fined $5,000 and banned from postseason play in the upcoming 2021 season. It also says an unspecified number of players have also been ruled ineligible.

The actions come after last month's allegations from the Wildcats' former booster club director Mike "Nub" Nelson, who taped Valdosta coach Rush Propst during a conversation discussing paying to help transfer players pay housing expenses.

Propst, who led the Wildcats to the Class 6A semifinals before losing to Buford in 2020, was placed on administrative leave by the school board last month after the allegations were made public.
