Man arrested after SWAT standoff in Forsyth County neighborhood

By AccessWDUN Staff
An armed man was arrested Wednesday night after a standoff with SWAT team members from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to 8005 Pierpoint Lane around 4:30 p.m. and found Jason Campbell, 36, in a mentally distressed state. He had a gun and was threatening suicide. According to a release from the department, he was also intoxicated.

Campbell left his home multiple times, pointing the gun at his head. He fired multiple shots, both inside the home and outside, hitting nearby townhomes.

Crisis Negotiators built a rapport with the man and the FCSO SWAT team eventually apprehended him. They used a compressed composite foam baton, which Stacie Miller with the sheriff's office described as "a less than lethal tactic used by [the] SWAT team," to apprehend him when he exited his home holding a handgun.

Campbell suffered minor injuries and was taken to Northside Hospital for evaluation. He remains there at last report. No other injuries were reported.

He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a firearm.
