Pre-K students in North Georgia eligible to win money for college in a state-run program

Four students, one each from North Georgia, Metro Atlanta, South and Southeast Georgia, will win a $1,529 each for their education, and $529 for their Pre-K program.

"We know that the sooner families start savings, the more opportunity they have to save more money, the end result is it really helps to reduce the amount of potential student debt," said Mitch Seabaugh, Executive Director of the Path2College 529 Plan.

All parents or legal guardians need to do to enter is sign the child up online or through their Pre-K. Four winners will be randomly selected and will receive funding in a Path2College 529 Plan savings account.

The Path2College 529 Plan is designed to help families save money for college through a statewide savings program.

"Studies have shown that a child, or a student, that has a college savings account, regardless of the amount of money in that account, studies show that child is seven times more likely to actually go to school," said Seabaugh. "That's why we're trying to raise awareness of the need to save because it changes the entire focus of the family and the student."

Seabaugh said parents who feel overwhelmed by not saving enough should remember that "every dollar saved is one less you're going to need in a student loan."

The sweepstakes is co-sponsored by the Department of Early Care and Learning, and entry closes on April 15.
