Baseball: Area teams battle for top spots in region play on Friday

Several northeast Georgia area baseball teams will conclude crucial series' on Friday, as teams look to hang on to top spots or climb the ladder in region play.

Perhaps the biggest matchup on Friday will be at Lynn Cottrell Field where No. 1 North Hall and White County will wrap up their three-game series with outright first place on the line Region 7-3A. The two teams split the first two games, both winning on the road. The Warriors (12-4, 7-1 Region 7-3A) took Game 1, 4-1, while the Trojans (12-4, 7-1 Region 7-3A) won Game 2, 2-0.

Also in Region 7-3A, No. 5 Cherokee Bluff (12-4, 4-1 Region 7-3A) will try to keep pace at home against Lumpkin County while West Hall travels to Gilmer..

Class 6A No. 1 Buford (19-0, 11-0 Region 8-6A) goes for the sweep over Dacula at Gerald McQuaig Field.

Region 8-4A, which has three teams ranked in the top six in Class 4A, has the night off from region play.

Jackson County in Region 8-5A  is locked in a four-way tie for first place and will look for the series sweep against Clarke Central in Athens.
