Dogs' Pickens tears ACL

By Georgia Sports Communications

ATHENS — George Pickens, a junior wide receiver,, injured his right knee in spring practice on a non-contact play on Tuesday afternoon, a statement from the Georgia Athletic Department said Wednesday.

An MRI confirmed an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which will require surgery. According to the Georgia Sports Information Department, Pickens has already started his pre-op rehabilitation program under the supervision of the UGAAA sports medicine staff and a full recovery is anticipated.

“The good news is that the MRI showed it to be an isolated injury with no other structures involved,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said.  “George is a hard worker. I know he will bring the same work ethic to rehab that he shows in practice every day.”

Pickens was the Bulldogs projected No. 1 receiver coming into the 2021 season.

Georgia is in the second week of its spring practice season. They will hold their annual G-Day game on April 17.

The Bulldogs open their season on Sept. 4 against Clemson in Charlotte, N.C.
