BETHLEHEM — The Johnson boys remained in a tie for first place in Region 8-5A after a 3-1 win over Apalachee on the road Tuesday night.
For the Class 5A sixth-ranked Knights (7-2-1, 3-0 Region 8-5A) it was their sixth straight win and kept them atop the standings with No. 4 Clarke Central (8-1-1, 3-0 Region 8-5A). Those two teams are scheduled to meet in two weeks in Athens.
Against Apalachee (6-3-1, 3-1 Region 8-5A) Johnson got a pair of first half goals from Jorge Sandoval and led 2-1 at halftime. Eliam Chavez added a goal in the second half for the cushion.
Johnson next will travel to Class 5A No. 3 Cross Keys on Friday.

The Lady Knights (1-8-1, 0-3 Region 8-5A) dropped their third straight match, all in region play, and two by just two goals or less.
Johnson trailed just 2-1 at the half on a goal by Adrianna Ramirez. Eileen Cruz scored in the second half for the Lady Knights.
Grace Yancey was in goal for Johnson most of the way.
