OAKWOOD — White County scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat Johnson 6-0 on Wednesday in a pitcher’s duel.
Tristen Nguyen went eight innings for the Knights giving up just one hit and fanning 14.
J. Ben Haynes struck out 10 and allowed no runs on just one hit in five innings for White County before giving way to Bailee Patterson. Patterson pitched in and out of trouble allowing three hits and walking two but also striking out seven.
Cole Farmer, who took the loss, and Joshua Lopez pitched the ninth but only two of the six runs were earned as the Knights walked five and committed two big errors.
Johnson out-hit White County with Nguyen having two hits, including a double. Jarrett Atwill and Peyton Lavergne had one hit each for the Knights.
Rylee Higgins, Patterson, and Caleb Reddy had one hit apiece for White County.
WEST HALL 9,
WALNUT GROVE 8 15 inn
The Spartans scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 15th inning to beat the Warriors at Spartans Field.
West Hall led 5-1 after the first inning, 6-3 after the second inning, and 8-4 after the fifth inning. But Walnut Grove plated four runs in the sixth to tie the game.
The Spartans loaded the bases in the sixth but could not scratch a run across. The Warriors also left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.
West Hall left a runner stranded at third in the 10th and had runners at second and third in the 11th but could not score before finally getting the game-winner in the 15th.
Michael Gaddy had three hits and four RBI to lead a 16-hit West Hall attack. Kyle Murphy also had three hits and Tyler Maynard, Justin Shaffer, and Evan Connor each had two hits for the Spartans.
Braden Simms got the win in relief for West Hall pitching the final five innings allowing just two hits and striking out 10.
