An additional five COVID-19 mass vaccination sites will open throughout the state on March 17.
The new sites, according to a press release from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, will be located in:
• Columbus-Muscogee Site - Columbus, GA
• Washington County Site - Sandersville, GA
• Chatham County Site - Savannah, GA
• Bartow County Site - Emerson, GA
• Ware County Site - Waycross, GA
These extra sites will allow for the administration of 20,000 first doses per week to the 22,000 doses currently available at the existing mass vaccination sites, according to the release. One of the existing sites is in Habersham County in Northeast Georgia.
“These additional sites mean even greater access to the vaccine for Georgians,” said Chris Stallings, GEMA/HS Director. “Our partnerships with Gulfstream Aerospace and public partners are enabling us to provide these additional resources for communities across the state, and we are grateful for their hospitality.”
The new sites will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are required to get a vaccine. Registration is not open yet, but residents can preregister at MyVaccineGeorgia.com.
Governor Brian Kemp announced several days ago that beginning March 8, educators working with grades Pre-K through high school would be eligible to receive a vaccine. The next phase of eligible recipients also includes adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers, and parents of children with complex medical conditions.
These groups will be in addition to those eligible for a vaccine in phase 1A+: healthcare workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, adults aged 65+ and their caregivers and first responders.
