Humane Society of Northeast Georgia hiring medical positions

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

Leadership with the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is looking to fill the positions of Medical Director and Associate Veterinarian.

The Medical Director is responsible for overseeing and providing full-service medical and surgical care for both shelter and public animals that visit HSNEGA's Healthy Pet Clinic. This position also serves as the team leader for clinic-based medical and operational decisions, working with the Clinical Care Director and Executive Director.

Candidates for the Medical Director role must possess a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and have a license in good standing with the state veterinary board or be able to obtain a Georgia license. Leadership with HSNEGA hope to have this position filled by April when the current Medical Director leaves, according to a press release from the shelter.

“Shelter medicine is hard work, but it's rewarding,” said Doctor Viviana Rodriguez, current HSNEGA Medical Director. "Being able to say that we saved a life who would have otherwise died in the streets...you can't get any more rewarding than that. We all went to vet school for that reason.”

In addition to the Medical Director position, HSNEGA is also hiring for their Associate Veterinarian position. This role is responsible for assisting with general medical needs and reports to the Medical Director. Candidates are required to have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited college or university and a current license, or be willing to obtain a license, to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Georgia.

“For veterinarians that absolutely love surgeries, HSNEGA is the perfect place to practice veterinary medicine,” said Rodriguez. “Clients of the HSNEGA Healthy Pet Clinic tell us every day how grateful they are that we offer low-cost pet vaccinations to the community.”

More information about these available positions is on the HSNEGA website. Qualified applicants can email their resume to Allison Mayfield, HSNEGA Executive Director, at [email protected]
