By AccessWDUN Staff

BUFORD — In a showcase between two of the nation’s best teams, Buford proved Wednesday it definitely belongs.

The Wolves, ranked fourth nationally by Perfect Game, held off No. 15 Parkview 3-0 at Gerald McQuaig Field in both teams’ season openers.

Brant Baughcum ripped a bases-loaded double into the leftfield corner in the bottom of the sixth to provide the only runs.

Meanwhile, three Buford pitchers combined for a no-hitter. Junior Dylan Lesko fanned nine in four innings to get the win. Junior Jackson Gaspard took over for Lesko in the fifth and fanned four in two innings. Senior Riley Stanford closed it out with a perfect seventh striking out the side.

Baughcum and Lesko each had two hits. Gaspard had a double for Buford’s five hits.

Class 6A top-ranked Buford (1-0) next will play host to Lambert, which is ranked seventh in Class 7A, on Saturday.
