FLOWERY BRANCH — The Lanier Christian girls are just one win away from making their fourth straight GAPPS state title game.
In an impressive overall performance, the Lady Lightning handled The Kings Academy with ease in a 45-12 win in the opening round of the GAPPS Division III tournament at home on Tuesday.
Shyla Sheffield scored a double-double performance leading LCA with 15 points and 14 rebounds. She also added a blocked shot and three steals. Lexie Robertson added 10 points and four boards, while Ashley Avery had 6 points and Reece Montgomery chipped in 4 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Lightning opening the game with a smothering defense and a blistering offensive, sprinting out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. LCA held Kings Academy scoreless in the first half, taking a 23-0 lead into the locker room at the half.
The win over Kings Academy was LCA's 20th of the season, setting a school record for wins in a season.
LCA will play Covenant Christian in Macon on Friday.
