Girls basketball: Rabun County rolls into 8-2A final

HOMER — Rabun County used a big second quarter to open a double-digit lead and then cruised to a 69-48 win over Banks County on Friday in the semifinals of the Region 8-2A tournament.

The Lady Wildcats (18-5) led just 13-8 after the first quarter but exploded for a 20-9 second quarter to run out to a 33-17 halftime lead. They continued their offensive explosion with 23 points in the third quarter to blow the game open, 56-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Gracie  Deetz paced Rabun County with 16 points. Lucy Hood and Ellie Southards each added 12 points and Sophie Woodard and Carley Haban had 9 points apiece for the Lady Wildcats.

Banks County (15-11) was by Kamryn Grier's 19 points. Addison Hoard added 14 points for the Lady Leopards.

Rabun County will take on Elbert County, a 74-39 winner over Union County in the other semifinal, in the finals.

Banks County will take on Union County for the No. 3 seed.
