Girls basketball: Lady Red Elephants advance in 6-7A tournament

GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville girls stayed alive in the Region 6-7A tournament with a 46-40 win over Lambert on Friday in the play-in game at the Gainesville gym.

The Lady Red Elephants (14-11) move on to play South Forsyth in the quarterfinals next week. The Lady War Eagles won both regular season meetings over Gainesville, though one was in double-overtime.

Against Lambert (3-20) Gainesville led most of the first half taking a 13-9 lead after the first quarter and a 26-23 lead into halftime. But Lambert stormed out to start the third quarter and eventually took a 33-32 lead into the final period.

Gainesville, however, fought back to grab the lead and held of several comeback attempts by the Lady Longhorns to hold on for the win.

Sadie Roach and Lauren Teasley both poured in 12 points to pace Gainesville. KeKe Jons added 11 points for the Lady Red Elephants.

Sydney Colin led Lambert with 11 points.

Gainesville as able to hold on hitting 10-of-15 free throws for the game. Lambert was just just 5-of-6 from the line for the game.
