Believe it or not, area basketball teams begin region tournaments today.
COVID-19 has tried to stop it but didn't win as the march to Macon is set to officially begin with Regions 8-2A, 7-3A and 6-7A today through early next week.
Region 7-3A is the only region to throw in on Thursday.
In girls' first-round action on Thursday, No. 4 seed North Hall will play host to No. 5 seed Dawson County at 6 p.m. for a trip to the semifinals against No. 1 seed Lumpkin County, while No. 3 seed Gilmer battles No. 6 seed Cherokee Bluff in Ellijay. The winner gets No. 2 seed White County in the semifinals.
In Dawsonville, the No. 3 seeded Dawson County boys welcome No. 6 seed Gilmer to the Ford Phillips Center at 7:30 p.m., and in Gainesville, No. 4 seed North Hall plays host to No. 5 seed Lumpkin County, Gilmer girls battle Cherokee Bluff for a trip to the semifinals.
On Friday, Region 8-2A and Region 6-7A are slated to begin.
