Lanierland Park to close temporarily on Jan. 10 for park expansion work

By AccessWDUN staff

Early next month, Lanierland Park will close temporarily to allow for earthmoving work to be done for an expansion project at the park.

Officials with Forsyth County government said the park will close Monday, Jan. 10 and remain closed for about a month. The timeline depends on weather conditions.

The construction is part of Phase 2 of the park's master plan. Phase 2 includes the following amenities:

  • Eight tennis courts
  • Four pickleball courts
  • Four baseball/softball fields
  • Miracle League baseball/softball field
  • All-inclusive playground
  • Hard and soft surface trails
  • Football/lacrosse field house
  • Additional parking

"We appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as we make improvements to the park this year," said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Pryor in a written statement. “When it opens later this year, Lanierland will be one of the county’s premier parks with these new additions. It will have something for everyone to enjoy.”

The $16.5 million for the expansion project is coming from SPLOST VIII proceeds and impact fees. The consultant for the project is Lose Design, and the general contractor is Astra Group Inc.

The park expansion is expected to be complete at the end of Fall 2022.

Lanierland Park is located at 6115 Jot-Em-Down Road.
